Daily Connect: See Yourself Beautiful?

From Vivian Diller in the Huffigton Post:

Beauty is in the "I" of the beholder. Mirrors reflect an image that tells us superficially what we look like. Gaze at yourself and go beyond, past your reflection, and perceive who you are as a person. What you see is only the image of yourself that informs the world of your physical self. Who you are is more than what they see. Become your own internal "eye." You have the ability to change the internal lens through which you perceive not only yourself, but others as well. The result? Women will be less self critical and less critical of each other.

The mind's "eye" is a familiar experience for many of us. Think a particular way -> see a particular way. In cognitive behavioral therapy, it is the delusions and distortions of particular false thoughts that are investigated and transformed. It's not that you "think yourself pretty" but that you re-think what it is that you mean by both yourself and the word pretty. For today, try a reorientation of the mind. You might just discover a new eye/I.

In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true. - Buddha
