Organizing a Yogi: The Magic Ingredient

The word of the day is kindness.  It's the magic ingredient for creating stress-free productivity.  Kindness is portable, fast-acting and incredibly efficient.  Got a case of the doldrums?  Feeling overwhelmed?  Depressed about the state of the world?  Try kindness!

This brilliant The Voices cartoon from Living Compassion illustrates the point.

There When I Need It

When I'm teaching a Mommy & Baby yoga class and everyone is doing something different I start to think "This class is a mess and it's all my fault", but then I remember... kindness.  When I forget the word for "window" for the seventh time during my Spanish lesson and think "What an idiot!"...  When the timer on my meditation alarm moves with agonizing slowness and my butt is itchy and I'd rather do anything than sit for another minute... When I ate way too much at dinner and still want a piece of chocolate even though it's past midnight...   When I'm watching some random show on HDTV instead of writing this article and berating myself silently for it...  When I wonder when is my life going to work out already?!

I notice.  I breathe.  I aim to bring awareness to the opportunities throughout the day for being kind to myself.  And I also look for ways to be kind to others.

Grasping for Perfection

Patrick commented on a previous Organizing a Yogi post and warned me: Don't turn into a robot.  I gotta admit there's something appealing about being totally organized, totally put together, totally perfect, totally... robotic!

But the reality is that my inbox is still an in-mountain on my desk and all my twelve to twenty seven email addresses are in various states of overload.  My to-do list is still incomplete and overcomplicated.  But my office supplies have arrived!  So now I have a label maker and folders so I can start filing some of these things away.

I'm going to go re-read Chapter 6, Processing: Getting "In" to Empty, from Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen.  And get to processing!

May all beings everywhere be safe, healthy, happy and free.  And may my actions in some way contribute.

In the column Organizing a Yogi I describe the process of organizing my projects and letting go of procrastination in order to achieve stress-free productivity.
